My new book, The Shop at Hoopers Bend, has just been published!

For a long time, I’ve been enthralled by fantasy worlds, writing books like the Deltora Quest, Rowan of Rin, Rondo, Three Doors and Star of Deltora series. My new book, The Shop at Hoopers Bend, is different. Not because I’m tired of high fantasy—far from it—but because different kinds of story ideas call for different ways of telling.

The Shop at Hoopers Bend is about the magic that’s part of our world, if only we can find it. In that way, it’s more like the first books I wrote when I was starting out—Something Special, Pigs Might Fly, The Best-Kept Secret and the rest, which are all about ordinary people discovering magic where and when they least expect it.

I loved the year I spent living in the world of Hoopers Bend, getting to know the characters and weaving the strands of mystery and magic together. I’m hoping readers like the book as much as I enjoyed writing it. It’s being published by Harper Collins under the Angus & Robertson imprint like Something Special, Pigs Might Fly and The Best-Kept Secret, which have all been given an update to celebrate, with new covers and internal design, but still with their great Noela Young illustrations.
